Did you know that there are now more than 11 million female entrepreneurs in the United States alone? Women-owned and led businesses are thriving, contributing billions of dollars to the economy, and creating economic opportunities for women that simply didn’t exist a generation ago. This is all great news, and for it to continue it’s so important to be proactive in seeking out women-owned businesses to support. Here are a few reasons why:
Supporting women-owned businesses is a great example for young girls, showing them that they can be the boss if that’s what they want to do when they grow up.
When women own businesses, the whole community benefits. Studies have shown over and over that when women become their own bosses and achieve financial freedom, families are stronger, kids do better in school, and local economies thrive. More women-owned businesses also means lower unemployment, and more money going back into the local and national economy.
Entrepreneurship is a great way to achieve better work-life balance. Female bosses can determine their own vacation and maternity leave policies, protecting their own time as well as their female employees in ways traditional corporations may not. Being a business owner is hard work, but as the boss a woman has the freedom to set her hours in a way that works best for her and her family.
Supporting other women fosters a culture of cooperation. Instead of seeing other women as the competition, it’s much healthier and more effective to support each other. Each woman with her own business has her own unique perspective and talents. There is plenty of room for everyone.
