Why Are Eyelash Extensions so Expensive, Anyway?

Sometimes clients really want to keep up with regular fills, but can’t afford to or don’t want to spend their whole beauty budget for the month on one service. If a client mentions that they can’t afford regular eyelash extension fills, you may want to suggest an alternative, like a lash lift or tint that doesn’t involve quite as much upkeep.

Why Are Eyelash Extensions so Expensive, Anyway?

But what if someone asks you why their lash extensions are so expensive in the first place? The truth is, that unless you are pricing your services way too low (which isn’t a sustainable business practice), you will get asked this question sometimes. It may come from a client, or from a curious friend or family member. After all, when they see that you charge hundreds of dollars for a complete set, it may give off the impression that you are raking in the dough on each service you perform.

So, why are eyelash extensions so expensive? For a lot of reasons!

  • Overhead: you have to pay rent and utilities, a cleaning person, and for supplies.

  • You can only do so many fills and full sets in a day because it is such demanding work, requiring great concentration and being very hard on your back and eyes.

  • You spend a lot of non-billable time on things like marketing and social media, replying to customer phone calls, and training your lash artists.

  • You have to pay for insurance and business fees.

  • Quality lash products tend to be more expensive.

  • You invest time and money into training your staff.

And all of this has to come out of the money you earn from lash services. The more your business grows, the more expenses you have, and if you don’t charge enough for lashes your revenue will quickly be eaten away.

So, the next time someone asks you why eyelash extensions are so expensive, just rattle off these reasons, or maybe just send them a link to this blog.
