Would you like to make your lash salon more socially and environmentally responsible, but you aren't sure how to get started? We came up with this list of easy ways to give back to your community as a business and would love to hear your ideas as well!
Implement Quarterly Staff Volunteering
Each quarter, gather your staff and spend an afternoon volunteering together. Volunteering may be for the same organization each time, or you may decide to take turns picking the volunteer site. Quarterly volunteering is great because it's consistent without requiring an overwhelming commitment.
At the salon I sold back in 2019, Lashology, we loved our quarterly volunteering and committed to helping Bella Boutique, an organization that gives free prom dresses and accessories to underprivileged teen girls, as well as The Gathering Place a women's shelter. Other ideas include volunteering at an animal shelter, visiting seniors in a retirement community, or cleaning up a local park near your salon.
Run Collection Drives at Your Studio
An easy way to give back while getting your clients involved is to reach out to non-profits in your area and find out what supplies or other donations they need. Then set up a collection area at your studio and advertise your collection drive via your social media feeds. For example, you may want to collect school supplies for local schools, new and gently used winter coats in the winter, or new socks, undies, and personal toiletry items for a local women's shelter or halfway house.
Sponsor a Family During the Holidays
Most major cities have programs where you can sign up to sponsor a struggling family over the holidays, providing them with Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner as well as gifts they wouldn't otherwise be able to enjoy. Unfortunately, sponsoring can be a bit cost-prohibitive for an individual. Still, if your entire staff and clients chip in to split the cost, you will be able to easily sponsor a family, bond as a staff, and help cheer up the holiday season for a deserving family.
Participate in "Look Good Feel Better"
Look Good Feel Better is a unique non-profit that helps women undergoing chemotherapy for cancer look their best and regain some of their confidence during such a difficult time. Look Good Feel Better is always looking for volunteers, especially those with aesthetician or cosmetology skills and training.
Host a Charity Party with a Raffle
If you or someone on your staff loves to plan and host parties, a charity party with a raffle can be a very festive and successful way to give back. You can have a raffle with donated prizes (including a complimentary lash fill or set for a lucky winner), with all proceeds from the cover charge and raffle tickets going to the charity of your choice.
Banding together with other local businesses can make this party even more successful and easier to host. A less time-consuming (but still meaningful) spin on this is to donate gift cards for your studio to a charity event that's already taking place.
